Paris & London: Dining, Celebrations & European Hospitality with a View

There’s something special about summer travel in Europe — the long evenings, the way cities seem to glow at sunset, and the sense that every meal is an experience to be lingered over. On my family's recent trip to Paris and London, we sought out restaurants that not only offered wonderful food, but also views that made each moment unforgettable. Along the way, we celebrated milestones, discovered flavors, and were reminded that hospitality at its best creates memories that last far beyond the meal.
Paris
Le Girafe – Dinner with the Eiffel Tower
Dining at Le Girafe felt like stepping into a dream. We were literally seated in front of the Eiffel Tower, so close that it filled our entire view. The moment we sat down, it took our breath away. Guests nearby leaned over with curiosity, asking how we managed to get such a perfect table, as if we knew someone on the inside. That sense of being in on a secret made the evening even more magical.
The menu leaned toward seafood, beautifully simple and elegantly executed. But the finale stole the show: chouquettes vanille-praliné à tremper dans du chocolat. Warm, airy pastries with a hint of vanilla and praline, dipped into silky chocolate; they melted in the mouth, each bite a reminder that the French truly understand dessert as an art form.
Angelina Paris – A Sweet Pause in the City
Just outside the Louvre, Angelina is a Parisian institution and the perfect spot for a midday break. Famous for its rich hot chocolate and Mont-Blanc pastry, it’s the kind of place where the indulgence is as much about the atmosphere as the menu. We ordered pastries to share—delicate, buttery, and crafted like works of art—and enjoyed the timeless Belle Époque setting before wandering back into the bustle of the city.
Rooftop at Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers – Cocktails Over the Rooftops
One of my favorite moments came from something more casual: cocktails at the rooftop of Hôtel National des Arts et Métiers. The crowd leaned more local than tourist, the music was low, and the view stretched from the rooftops of the Marais to Sacré-Cœur. A glass of rosé in hand, Paris spread out before us, and for that evening, the city felt entirely ours.
London
Duck & Waffle – A Birthday Above the City
For my birthday, we celebrated high above London at Duck & Waffle. The restaurant, perched on the 40th floor, offers a panoramic sweep of the skyline that’s breathtaking day or night. The namesake dish—crispy duck leg on a fluffy waffle with a fried egg and mustard maple syrup—is playful but perfectly balanced, and became the centerpiece of the evening (even the vegetarian version was delicious!). Add in cocktails and the sparkle of the city below, and it was a birthday I’ll never forget.
Gordon Ramsay’s Heddon Street Kitchen – A Celebration in the Kitchen
Another celebration came at Heddon Street Kitchen, where we marked a special moment for our 13 year old son. Our table overlooked the open kitchen, and from an industry perspective it was mesmerizing — like watching The Bear come to life in real time. Every movement was purposeful, every station humming like clockwork, yet there was an artistry in the rhythm.

The chef himself even stepped out to present a dish, adding a layer of connection between the kitchen and the dining room that elevated the experience. From the perfectly seared steaks to the indulgent sides, the food was rich and satisfying, but it was that peek behind the curtain that stayed with me. It was hospitality, craft, and theater, all rolled into one.
Other Highly Recommended Spots with a View
Even though our trip centered around these highlights, here are a few more restaurants worth seeking out if you’re chasing memorable dining experiences and European hospitality with a view:
Le Perchoir (Paris) – A trendy rooftop bar in the 11th, with cocktails, music, and stunning sunsets.
Georges (Paris) – Atop the Centre Pompidou, offering a futuristic vibe and sweeping views of Paris.
Aqua Shard (London) – Modern British cuisine served from the 31st floor of The Shard, with views stretching over the Thames.
Madison (London) – A lively rooftop near St. Paul’s, perfect for cocktails and city views.
The Takeaway
Looking back, what made these experiences so memorable wasn’t just the scenery or the food, it was the way each restaurant blended hospitality with a sense of place. From a birthday high above London to a Parisian evening watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle, these moments reminded me that the best meals give us more than just flavors—they give us stories to carry home.
As someone who works in food, design, and hospitality, I found myself noticing the little touches: the table placement that made us feel like VIPs at Le Girafe, the chef stepping out of the kitchen at Heddon Street, or the server who timed a cocktail perfectly as the sun set in Paris. These weren’t accidents, they were intentional acts of hospitality.
It reminded me of the power of what some call “unreasonable hospitality”: going beyond what’s expected, creating surprise, delight, and connection. That’s what transforms a dinner into a memory, and a restaurant into a story you’ll tell for years to come.
Merci beaucoup, Paris! And cheers!
