A Celebration of World Kindness & Generosity
Giving back and supporting the communities and neighborhoods we call home is just one of the
many reasons I enjoy working at elite|studio e. It builds comradery within our team, fosters community connections, makes us stronger individuals and most importantly … it feeds our to desire to pay it forward.
Last week, our team took the opportunity to give back – twice – as Saturday, November 13th was World Kindness Day. According to National Today, the purpose of World Kindness Day, is “to highlight good deeds in the community focusing on the positive power and the common thread of kindness which binds us.”
Earlier today, I took a few minutes to stop by Long Island Cares to deliver Thanksgiving dinners for several families in need. These packages were a culmination of our World Kindness Day project – collecting, packaging and donating food to adopt five families this Thanksgiving. These families are among thousands in need in our community this year. Upon speaking with the LI Cares staff, who are so warm and appreciative to each person that walked in, I learned that several thousand meals were already donated this year and the goal is to provide 5,000 families in need with a complete Thanksgiving meal.
In addition to participating in this hands-on project, our team also joined in on the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management Foundation’s “Easy as Pie” fundraiser. A project with a different feeling and lots of laughs, it gives nod to the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that was trending a few years ago. Within minutes of the effort being announced, our team raised the “goal” amount to pie Raquel Weiss Fusco. So, earlier in the week, we cheered on Raquel as she took three whipped cream pies to the face!
Although the Pie Challenge certainly was fun for our team, elite|studio e is proud to join the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management Foundation in its commitment to the continued growth of the foodservice and hospitality industry. The organization supports higher education in related professions through scholarships and student outreach programs.
When you spend more than forty hours a week working for an organization, you want to go home with a good feeling. You want to know that your hard work is not only going towards the business’ objectives, but also building something positive in the world. Here at elite|studio e, I’m so grateful to have this sentiment and know that there are likeminded individuals on our team too.
Winston Churchill once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
Whether you give during the holidays or a lend a hand when it’s needed the most, you likely already know that when you donate your money, your things, or your time, you tap into giving back’s not-so-hidden health benefits, both mentally and physically.
As we embark on the season of giving, I hope you’ll take a few minutes to do something for the greater good. And, on behalf of the entire team at elite|studio e, we wish you and your family a very happy Thanksgiving.
